음악낭독극 〈원더〉는 R. J. 팔라시오의 소설 〈원더〉(2012)를 뮤지컬극단 낭만씨어터의 음악낭독극으로 옮긴 작품이다. 얼굴이 남다르게 태어난 열 살 소년 어기 풀먼이 처음으로 평범한 학교에 들어가 친구들과 부딪히고 또 가까워지는 이야기를, 어기와 누나 비아, 친구 서머와 잭 등 여러 인물이 번갈아 들려주는 원작의 구성을 그대로 따라 무대에 펼친다.

화려한 무대 장치 없이, 네 배우의 낭독과 노래 그리고 피아노 한 대가 ‘다정함을 택하라’는 작품의 마음을 객석에 전한다. 〈원더〉는 서울동부교육지원청의 「더불어, 새롭게 — 우리가 꿈꾸는 교실혁신」 연수 시리즈 가운데 ‘낭독으로 온 작품 읽기’로 초등 교원들과 만났고, 같은 해 여름 다시 무대에 올랐다.

Wonder is a music-reading theatre piece adapted from R. J. Palacio's 2012 novel. August “Auggie” Pullman, a ten-year-old born with a facial difference, enters mainstream school for the first time. Following the book's chorus of alternating narrators — Auggie, his sister Via, his friends Summer and Jack — four performers carry the story through reading and song.

With no elaborate scenery, four voices and a single piano convey the novel's quiet creed: choose kind. The piece was presented within the Seoul Eastern District Office of Education's “Classroom Innovation We Dream Of” teacher-training series — under the heading “Reading Works Aloud” — and staged again that summer.
